The new Black Label series is an ever changing series of black-washed wooden headphones. Hand-built in Brooklyn, the Black Label II is crafted from Oak. Until this point we've only used Oak in limited editions, and they’ve now found a permanent home in our lineup. We’ve shaped the oak into our signature large housing, while the wood helps with the mechanical damping of the headphone and better controls the resonant frequencies. The circular shape specifically assists the dispersion of the rear waves from the driver as well. The 50mm driver, which has been combined with a 12 conductor cable, is configured for the oak and designed for its enclosure to ensure its sonic performance.

We first conceived the idea for wooden headphones in 1994. John Grado went downstairs to a workbench in the middle of the night with the idea to build a headphone out of wood. 24 years later, wooden Grados have given us the chance to produce a sound we would never have been able to without them. Wooden Grado headphones enter a new era of possibilities with the Black Label series.
